Our client has an immediate need for a high level talented Computer Operator!  The ideal candidate  has proven experience managing and supporting operational tasks within a Data Center environment.

Opportunity Overview :
  • Responsible for managing and performing daily operational tasks related to all computer systems and peripheral devices in data center.
  •  Schedule and run production jobs
  •  Oversee all monitoring production processes and backups that run on the various systems.  
  • Install and maintain software utilized in the daily activities of computer operations.  
  • Handles basic server hardware fixes for the technical support team.  
  • Lead designated activities within the Data Center.  
  • Scheduling activities, tracking the completion of tasks, ensuring that established operational procedures are being followed.
  • Handles emergency situation and/or escalating issues, and communicating across the shifts and to management. 
  • Collaborates with relevant teams to define requirements and arrange scheduling of new jobs utilizing appropriate software
  • Monitors the running of production jobs to ensure their successful completion.  Successfully monitors cross platform systems.  Resolve all issues by either taking appropriate corrective action or coordinating resolution through other support teams.
  • Monitors and manages daily backups of all servers globally, utilizing the appropriate backup software.  
  • Produce daily backup status report and facilitate any corrective actions needed to resolve problems and/or issues.
  • Ensures that all offsite tape management is handled accurately, following the pre-defined rotation schedule for each platform.  
  • Interfaces with the off-site tape management storage vendor to resolve any issues or exceptions that may arise.
  • Performs the installation and/or removal of all hardware in the Data Center and works with the various hardware vendors and the company's infrastructure teams to resolve hardware problems.  
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of installed equipment and ensures that adequate environmental needs are met.  
  • Participates in the planning and activities associated with the annual power down.
  • Provides operational support and makes process enhancement recommendations to the other functional groups within Information Services as needed.  
  • Creates recovery tapes for the UNIX administrators, creating copies of files for the development staff, and maintaining the physical environment of the Data Center.
  • Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing activities.
  • Maintains a high-level of communication and teamwork across other groups to successfully accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Performs shift turnover activities, ensuring that adequate transitioning takes place between third and first shifts.  This includes the tracking and hand-off of carryover items between the shifts.   
  • Provides support and trains others in computer operations processes and procedures.  
  • Prepares and maintains associated documentation.
  • Maintains knowledge and trains others on the environmental systems that service the Computer Room including heating/AC, power distribution units, power backup, and fire suppression.  

Qualifications & Required skills:
  • Advanced and proven experience working within data center required.
  • Experience running batch, manage all physical hardware to include install and de-install and with Windows
  • Experience with basic break/fix on Network know-how
  • Expertise with Unix.
  • Proven expertise in a Windows based environment.

Work location and Additional Info:
